KARATE kids in Wyre Forest will battle to raise money for children with complex learning needs.

Young Gloves Karate, which holds classes in Kidderminster, Stourport and Bewdley, hosts its annual competition on Sunday at King Charles I School, Comberton Road, Kidderminster.

Money raised at the event will go towards Sunfield, a national charity which supports children with disabilities such as autism.

Lead instructor Justin Thomas said: “We have been very busy but everyone is really looking forward to it.

“We have been voting between eight charities to raise money for and there are a few autistic kids in our class so Sunfield is very close to our hearts.

“We have a black belt demonstration and everybody is practising really hard going through the routines and the rules of the competition – the club is buzzing.”

There will also be refreshments and tombolas and, with the club funding the event, every penny will go to the charity.

The club’s fund-raising is now in its 10th year and children have managed to raise more than £17,000 during that period. Last year, 200 club members managed to collect £3,000 for Starlight.
