After being inspired by the difference a water well can make to families in Cambodia, Club members have raised £150 from donations and sponsored their own water well, Number 523, through the UK Friends of Cambodian Child’s Dream Organisation (CCDO). It has been built in Promkot Village, about 22 kms east of Siem Reap. The well is shared by five families with a total of 38 people using it.

President Hilary Thompson said: ‘I am delighted that we have sponsored a well during my year as a result of being inspired by our July speaker, Margaret Jarman who founded the UK Friends of Cambodian Child’s Dream Organisation. Through her efforts there are now a growing number of wells sponsored by Midlands Soroptimist Clubs. A water well is so important as it improves health, life expectancy and living conditions of those in the community. Cambodian children are able to realise their dreams of attending schools to gain an education, especially in rural areas.’ The Club is keen to continue their support and will be exploring whether more wells can be sponsored in partnership with Kidderminster Town.
