THE Bewdley School and Sixth Form Centre has received a letter from the Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg congratulating the school on improving exam results for disadvantaged pupils.
Last year’s key stage results showed that the Bewdley School was among the top performing schools in England for boosting performance of disadvantaged pupils since the introduction of the pupil premium in 2011.
Pupil premium is additional funding allocated to schools to work with pupils who are from disadvantaged background and address inequalities between children who have free school meals and their peers.
Mr Clegg said in his letter: “This is a real testament to the hard work of staff, pupils, parents and governors.
“I would like to congratulate you on your results and your proven commitment to making sure all children can succeed, whatever their background.”
In 2012, 73 per cent of pupils attained five GCSEs grade A* to C including English and mathematics compared to 65 per cent in 2011.
