THE family of four siblings from Chaddesley Corbett who have all served in the armed forces will be holding a summer fete for Help for Heroes.

James and Margaret Painter have three sons and a daughter who have fought for their country and along with other family members will be hosting the event next to Rowberry’s Nurseries garden centre on Saturday from noon.

The family formed a team, the Chaddesley Campaigners, five years ago and have so far raised more than £8,000 for Help for Heroes.

The siblings are Royal Marine Lee Painter, 2nd Battalion Mercian Regiment Darrell Painter, Dawn Locking, of the Royal Logistics Corps and Wesley Painter who used to serve in the Army.

Lee’s wife Annie Painter said: “This is the second fete that we have held there but we have done other smaller ones before.

“Each year it surprises us how much it grows and the more support and help we receive from kind people all wanting to help such a good cause.”

Both Lee and Darrell have been deployed to Afghanistan in the past.

Mrs Painter added: “Help for Heroes is a charity very close to our heart and family. We have done various events over the years including a sponsored walk, a bike ride from Worcester to Chaddesley Corbett and produced a calendar.”

This year, James Painter and his three sons completed a 327-mile bike ride from Lands End to Chaddesley Corbett ending on Armed Forces Day. They raised £2,000 from the ride.

The fete will include a dog show with 25 classes, storm troopers, a classic car show, army trucks, First and Second World War memorabilia, a balloon race, wrestling shows, pony rides, a tug of war and strongest man and woman competitions.

There will also be an evening event, which is optional fancy dress, at the Fox Inn with live music from Band for Life.

Entry is a £1 and free for under 10s. Rowberry's is also holding a fuschia flower show.
