A DERELICT 20th century warehouse building in Stourport could be demolished and replaced by 11 flats.

The homes would be built on the Riverside Building site at the former Carpets of Worth, in Severn Road, if the plans are given the go-ahead.

The flats would be made up of six one bedroom and five two-bedroom properties.

More than 150 houses and flats are set to be built on the former Stourport carpet factory site after ambitious proposals were given the go-ahead last year. Locally listed buildings, Gatehouse and Whitehouse, will also be brought back into use.

The plan for 11 flats at Riverside Building is likely to be approved by Wyre Forest District Council planners at a meeting tomorrow after being recommended for delegated approval.

District council case officer Paul Round said the Riverside Building was currently in “very poor state of repair following fire damage and subsequent deterioration”.

He added that only part of its roof structure was remaining and only part of the remaining walls were salvageable. Applicants Stourport Corporation NV plan to retain the walls which are structurally sound and demolish the unsound ones. It also hopes to recover materials and special details and rebuild around the remains Mr Round added: “The proposed rebuilding of the Riverside Building – a heritage asset – and the provision of 11 residential units is considered to be acceptable and in accordance with policy, given the material considerations advanced.

“Provision for affordable housing, education contributions and public open space contributions will be provided in line with adopted policy.”
