A KIDDERMINSTER firm has benefited from a grant of almost £3,000 to help it cut its electricity bills and save thousands of pounds a year.

The Solid Surfacing Company received the Resource Efficient Worcestershire cash after applying for the grant to pay for more energy-efficient lighting for their premises on the Spennells Valley Trading Estate, where it manufactures solid surface and laminates products.

The firm was given a grant of £2,817 towards the costs of the improvements, which aim to help reduce energy bills by around 40 per cent, improving profitability and saving more than 13 tonnes of CO2 per year.

This grant award combined with other recommendations from Resource Efficient Worcestershire could save the company more than £4,300 a year.

Jill Reid, director, said: “Our lighting has been poor and out dated for years and was costing us a fortune in electricity bills.

“Our premises have been improved drastically by the new lighting and our workforce is much happier as a result.

“We are now looking forward to the added benefit of reduced electricity bills.”

Worcestershire County Council, in partnership with Herefordshire and Worcestershire Chamber of Commerce, was awarded funding from the West Midlands European Regional Development Fund(ERDF) programme for the initiative.
