A COMMEMORATIVE plaque will be fixed to an historic Bewdley former hotel building in honour of its past owner, if plans are given the go-ahead.
A planning application has been handed to Wyre Forest District Council planners to erect the plaque at the Grade II listed George Hotel, Load Street - which is now a pub - by current owners JD Wetherspoon.
It will pay tribute to Sarah Elizabeth Woodward, the licensee and owner of the hotel from the early 1890s until 1908.
Mrs Woodward was also England's first female county or borough councillor when she was elected for Bewdley in 1907, soon after the passing of the Qualifaction of Women (County and Borough Councils) Act, in August that year.
A period of consultation on the application ends on January 2, 2014, after which a decision is likely to be made.
