THOUSANDS of spectators are set to flock to Bewdley for a boating event that will be the first held in the town.
The Rotary Club of Bewdley has teamed up with the rowing club to put on its first Dragon Boat Festival.
Crews of 16 will be taking to their dragon-style boats along with a rower and a steersman to race along the River Severn for charity .
The teams will race their “dragons” in a series of timed races over distances of around 250 metres.
Organiser John Cox said: “There will be lots of noise and cheer. It will be very much a spectator event.
“The crews will be asked to raise money for their charities. A percentage will go to the Rotary Cub’s charities.”
He added: “There will be interesting prizes, including for fancy dress.”
The event is set to take place on Saturday, Au gust 23, at Bewdley Rowing Club .
Mr Cox added: “If it’ s successful it will be a very substantial fundraiser.
“The spectators can come into the rowing club area to view the races, or view from Severnside North.”
