A CHILDREN'S book illustrator visited a Kidderminster primary school to talk to pupils about his work.

Chris Fisher, illustrator of The Wrong Pong and The Snow Dragon, held sessions with children at Heronswood Primary School and spoke to them about where he gets his inspiration from.

He talked to the pupils about his connections with famous authors including JK Rowling and Jacqueline Wilson and explained how he worked with authors to produce his illustrations.

He also revealed that he sometimes gives his drawings to authors, who then write the stories around the characters he has created.

Mr Fisher then helped children to create their own characters and stories, which he turned into drawings for them to keep.

Deputy headteacher Rhoda Pierpoint said: "We are constantly looking for ways to inspire our children as writers. As a school we use text mapping to support our children from initial ideas into full blown stories, recounts and reports.

"The illustrator demonstrated to the children how he uses the same concept to inspire his own work. This was a truly amazing opportunity for our children.”
