Young people from around the county have voted for their favourite teen title published last year (2013).

At an exciting quiz and celebration event in the Council Chamber last Thursday (March 27), a packed Council Chamber heard Rick Yancey's The 5th Wave voted as best read.

The winner was finally announced by Kathy Kirk, Strategic Library and Learning Manager who said: "The Worcestershire Teen Book Awards means more young people get to experiment with a greater range of genres than they might normally tackle. Not only is this a great way to keep young people engaged with reading but it is also very enjoyable experience."

Pupils championed their own favourites, and answered questions on all titles before author Phil Earle talked to an eager audience about his own writing.

The book titles shortlisted were: Russian Roulette by Anthony Horowitz Downside Up by Hayley Long More than this by Patrick Ness Ketchup Clouds by Annabel Pitcher The screaming staircase by Jonathan Stroud The 5th Wave by Rick Yancey The event's quiz saw Pershore High students being hailed winners following an tense tie-breaker with Nunnery Wood High.
