A KIDDERMINSTER artist will be holding a special workshop to show people the wonders of wool.

Working together with Woolwise, in Lower Mill Street, Raya Brown will teach those wanting to know more about the material felt making and wool painting.

Being born in the cultural capital of Russia, St Petersburg, Raya discovered her love for wool and felt which she went on to develop in the UK, leading her to open her own art and craft studio, the Magic Wool Studio, in the town.

She said: "I am trying to promote felt making and wool painting in this country as the interest towards natural and substantial recyclable fibres is growing and my techniques offer unique therapeutic and tactile experience to people with different emotional and learning problems.

"Together with the local Woolwise shop in Kidderminster we are trying to raise an interest towards the British wool which is still underestimated by many people."

Th artist and felt maker has been teaching art and textiles for 18 years to children and adults in the UK and Russia, but the new educational programme at the Kidderminster wool store will give interested people the chance to find out what felt making is all about with free demonstrations between 11am and 3pm on Saturday, December 6.
