BEWDLEY Town Council held its first event after pledging to help reduce loneliness and isolation amongst older people in the community.

The “Together” project hosted a Bewdley Remembered coffee morning at Summerdyne Nursing Home for visitors and residents on Tuesday December 2 from 10am to 12pm.

Twenty people gathered at the nursing home to remember Bewdley as it was and to learn from each other about Bewdley and its history. They were joined by the Mayor of Bewdley, Councillor Derek Killingworth.

Tea, coffee, homemade cakes and mince pies were enjoyed by all who attended, while they caught up with old friends.

Memories shared of the area at the event, have been recorded for the Bewdley Museum and will form part of their project to capture the history of Bewdley.

Bewdley Town Councillors Anne Mace, Philip Edmundson, Liz Davies and Linda Candlin have formed the group, which will collaborate with numerous partners including charities and civic organisations.

Independent Community and Health Concern councillor Anne Mace, who proposed the initiative, said: “We have started what is a project to deal with isolation and loneliness in Bewdley.

“Imagine a life where a visit from the postman might be the only human contact you have all week.

“For many of us this is hard to do but for many older people it is a grim reality.

“Everyone said they had really enjoyed themselves at the event and they want another session in January, it was obvious that we need a larger venue as we had a waiting list for this event.”

The next event will be held on Tuesday, January 27, between 2pm and 4pm, in Wribbenhall Parish Room, Kidderminster Road.

If you wish to attend the second event, contact Cllr Liz Davies on 01299 403053 or Cllr Anne Mace on 01299 402204. Transport to the event can be arranged.
