RED, white and blue clothing was worn during a special day at a Stourport school to raise money for a charity set up following the tragic death of a former pupil.

Patriotic children from Burlish Primary School, in Windermere Way, took part in Brilliant Britain Day to raise over £350 for Josh's Prayers, a charity created following the death of former pupil Josh Jones.

The 18-year-old trainee mechanic had been working underneath a car when the axle stand feet buckled and the vehicle fell on top of him.

He was in intensive care at Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham for seven days but sadly died on Wednesday, May 28 last year.

His parents set up the charity to support bereaved parents who have lost young family members in tragic accidents.

Josh's younger brother Kaiden is in year one at the Stourport-on-Severn primary school.

Lynda Williams, eco school co-ordinator, said: "We decided to link the day with raising money for the charity Josh's Prayers as a red, white and blue theme featured at Josh's memorial service in recognition of his love of life and the Union flag.

"We started the day with a special assembly to give the children the chance to reflect on the values we think are important in school, including honesty, hard work, fun, kindness and resilience."

Children made a donation to be allowed to wear their own clothes with all the finds going to the charity.

Stephanie and Rob Jones, Josh's and Kaiden's parents, said they were thrilled to receive the donation for the charity. "We are extremely grateful to Burlish Park Primary school for their support and we are overwhelmed by the amount that has been raised.

"It's an amazing amount of money.

"We would like to thank all the staff , children and parents for taking part and donating to Josh's Prayers."
