A PICTURESQE Bewdley golf club is under new ownership after it was purchased by a national company.

The Club Company has taken over the family-owned 18-hole Wharton Park Golf and Country Club for an undisclosed price.

It had been run by Alan and Anne Umbers, along with their daughter Stacie since 2010 and had undergone a £1million refurbishment two years ago.

Thierry Delsol, Chief Executive of The Club Company, said: “We are delighted with the purchase of Wharton Park, having been attracted by its high quality facilities and excellent location.

“In time and with additional investment, Wharton Park will fit the Club Company model, offering golf and extensive health and fitness facilities to suit the all family.

“Lone Star, our financial backers, have been very supportive. The recent acquisition and investment programs at Castle Royle and The Warwickshire demonstrate our desire to grow the company.”

Stacie Umbers, who was the previous Managing Director of Wharton Park, is staying on as General Manager.

She said: “I am delighted to be part of this new company and new era for Wharton Park, and I am sure that Club Company will take the club to the next level.”
