STAFF, students, governors and parents at Foley Park Primary School are celebrating following the publication of the school’s Ofsted inspection.

In 2013 the Northumberland Avenue school was judged as “requires improvement” but the December inspection rated the school “good” in all categories.

Headteacher, Kathryn Sugars, said: “We are all very proud of our school and delighted that the report reflects the hard work and dedication of staff, pupils and families which makes our school so successful.

“It also demonstrates that our systems to support self-evaluation are robust.”

The inspectors praised school leaders and managers for having high aspirations for the school and for being determined that pupils will be well equipped to move to secondary school.

The report stated: “Pupils make good progress through the school so that they reach standards in reading, writing and mathematics that are in line with national averages.

“Teaching, learning and assessment have improved rapidly since the last inspection so that the majority is good or better. As a result, pupils enjoy their learning and make good progress.

“Leaders mentor and support their colleagues to develop their professional skills.”

Inspectors also noted: “Pupils behave well around the school. They show respect for their friends and adults in school and are very welcoming to visitors.”

However, the school has been told they can improve further by improving the quality of teaching so that it is more outstanding by ensuring activities are at the right level for pupils to complete to enable them to remain focused and develop the systems in school that allow teachers to observe each other and seek out suitable partner schools to share good and better practice.

Analyses of pupils’ achievement should also be produced with more detail and precision in order to clearly set out the aims for pupils’ progress and attainment and how they can be achieved, to improve further.
