MODEL railways and behind the scenes tours will be on offer when Severn Valley Railway hosts its ‘Open House Weekend’ later this month.

The two day event at the attraction will be held on April 16 and 17 with visitors invited to come along and enjoy what’s on offer both on and off the rails.

For the first time, SVR will welcome 15 model railways which will be on display at Kidderminster Railway Museum and The Engine House Visitor Centre at Highley.

The SVR’s heritage steam and diesel locomotives will be in action, taking passengers along the line to admire the views of the Severn Valley or to visit any of the line’s six historic stations or Engine House Visitor Centre en-route.

Visitors will also be given the rare opportunity to take a look behind the giant doors of the Bridgnorth Locomotive Works, home to the Railway’s engine restoration projects, and to experience the inner workings of a signal box – both normally closed to the public.

Lewis Maddox, the SVR’s Events Coordinator, said: “Our all new Open House Weekend is on the move in more ways than one, and offers lots for everyone, whether you are involved in the railway already, would like to get involved, or are simply looking for a great day out.”

“We have a fantastic selection of model railways on display alongside our full-size steam and diesel locomotives, and you can even take a look behind the scenes at our locomotives works at Bridgnorth! So why not come along and enjoy a Springtime day on the “Valley”?”

Freedom of the Line tickets can be pre-booked on www.svr.co.uk or by phoning 01562 757900 (Option 1) Monday to Friday 9am – 5pm.
