BEWDLEY Carnival organisers are excited to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the annual event this weekend.

The event will return to the town on Saturday (June 11) and will feature a float parade, animals, magic escapology, wrestling and live music and dance.

Sue Matthews, one of the carnival organisers, said: “The organisers are really excited to be part of this year’s 50th anniversary Bewdley Carnival and think as a town we are very lucky to have a carnival as so many towns do not have one now.

“The highlight of the event will be seeing all ages enjoying the day and tired children being carried home after a great day at Bewdley Carnival.”

The carnival parade will leave Hales Park at around 1pm and will be led by this year’s carnival princesses Lola Dyoss, five, and Scarlett Hodges, 10, from Bewdley Primary School, and Grace Darby, nine, and Maisie Allen, six, from St Anne’s Primary School.

The parade will continue to Bewdley town centre, to Bewdley Leisure Centre where the afternoon’s entertainment will commence at around 2pm.

Crowds will be entertained by the Van Buren Show which will combine a variety of illusions, magic escapology and circus skills.

Entertainment on the carnival field will also include a samba percussion group, HCW wrestling, Bewdley Concert Band, Severnside School of Dance, Simon Airey the animal man and a fun fair.

On the evening the annual fireworks display – provided by Bewdley Town Council – will start at around 10pm to celebrate the carnival and the Queen’s 90th birthday.
