KIND golfers at Cleobury Mortimer Golf Club raised thousands of pounds in an annual event aimed at raising money for a cancer charity.

Nineteen teams graced the fairways of the club hoping to play some good golf and raise as much money as possible for the Teenage Cancer Trust.

This was the fourth annual charity golf day and the event, sponsored by MG Shopfronts and supported by Benham BMW and which included a charity auction, helped raise more than £9,300 in total.

The team of Paul Hebdon, Peter Buckley, Jonny Wilkinson and Angus Taylor shot a score of 58.2 to take 1st place with Chris Clayton, Amrit Singh, Andy Hughes, and Tony Wheeler following closely in second place on 59.5.

Prizes at the auction included a fourball at The Astbury, a Srixon tour bag signed by twelve professionals including Smiley Kaufman, Shane Lowry and Graeme McDowell, the chance to win a weekend drive in a BMW 7 Series and a three ball at The Belfrey with ex-England cricketer Matthew Hoggard

David Pain, of Cleobury Mortimer Golf Club said: “The prizes helped raise some significant money towards the charity, with the day raising over £9,000 in total, which we can all agree is brilliant.

“A big thank you to everyone involved in making The Teenage Cancer Trust Charity Golf Day such a success, special mention to Dave Coleman, Mark Greenfield, Charlotte Kendall and Benham BMW for their hard work and generosity towards the day.

“Next year’s event will take place on Friday, September 22 once again hoping to raise as much money as possible for a fantastic cause.”
