THE Shambles Café was crowned winner of this year’s Bewdley Harvest Fair Soup Trail.

The Soup Trail is organised by the Bewdley Development Trust and is one of the many events that took place in the town during the Bewdley Harvest Fair, on the weekend of October 1 and 2.

This year, six of the finest chefs in Bewdley competed to win the coveted Bewdley Soup Trail trophy, with the Shambles Café coming out on top.

A spokesman said: “Despite the rain, numerous families visited the six venues taking part to sample their lovely soups demonstrating that there are many talented chefs in the town.

“The six entrants were encouraged to use as many locally sourced ingredients as possible and the public purchased their Soup Visas from the Bewdley Farm Shop, in Dog Lane, and the Deli @ Bewdley, in Load Street.

“The Shambles Café in Bewdley Museum won the public vote, with their autumnal paprika punch bowl soup with the offer of a topping of sour cream or smoked pork sausage and chorizo for meat eaters.

“Chef Clare Golbourne was delighted to win the coveted trophy.”

The Shambles Café were joined for the Soup Trail by Pomodoro – winner for the last two years - the Mug House, Little Pack Horse, the Cock and Magpie and Healy’s.

The Mayor of Bewdley, Councillor John Beeson, also picked, at random, Donna Smith, from Stourport, as this year’s winner for the family ticket for the Severn Valley Railway.
