HEARTBROKEN relatives of a popular Kidderminster church organist who passed away at the age of 82 have paid tribute to him.

Stanley Mitchell was the former organist and choirmaster of St Mary and All Saints Church in Kidderminster for almost 20 years between 1985 and 2003.

Prior to his appointment at St Mary’s, Mr Mitchell served as an organist at a number of churches in and around Wyre Forest.

His distinguished and dedicated service to St Mary’s saw him invited to enjoy the title of ‘Organist Emeritus’ in recognition of his contribution.

During his retirement years, he was appointed organist at St Peter’s Church in Arley.

Tim Mason, Mr Mitchell’s son-in-law, said: “Music was always Stanley’s passion which started when he joined the choir at St Mary’s as a boy in 1942.

“This passion culminated in a very successful music practice as well as various appointments as organist at many local churches including St James in Wollaston, St Mary de Wyche in Wychbold and All Saints Church in Wribbenhall prior to his appointment at St Mary’s.

“Stanley was a true family man and he will be greatly missed by his family.”

Mr Mitchell died peacefully in his sleep on Monday, August 29 at Park House Nursing Home, Kinlet due to complications from Alzheimer’s disease. He is survived by his wife Greta and his daughters Alison and Ann.
