A BRAVE Stourport grandmother had a close shave to help raise money for a cancer charity in memory of much missed loved ones.
Sarah Mayhew decided to have all her hair cut off for Macmillan as part of their ‘Brave the Shave’ campaign, during a coffee morning held at Cornerstone Family Church in Minster Road.
She was given moral support from her husband Steve and her friends and her bravery saw her raise more than £1,400 for the cause.
The 51-year-old said: “I decided to do this because I have had aunties, uncles, cousins and friends who have all died from cancer.
“There are two friends in particular, Stephanie White and Helen Haste, one who died more than 10 years ago and one who died last year.
“Beforehand, I felt ok about the shave, although I had lots of interesting conversations with other ladies who thought I was mad.
“But I did it and am pleased to have raised more than £1,400 for such a worthy cause. I had a lot of support from family and friends and I am grateful for their donations.
“The company who Steve works for – Erik’s in Halesowen – made a generous donation too which was lovely.”
