A BLACK Country custody sergeant has raised more than £400 for charity by completing what he vows will be his last marathon.

Sergeant Johnny Norgrove, based at Oldbury, put his best foot forward in the inaugural Birmingham International Marathon on Sunday October 15.

The 48-year-old father-of-four, who ran the London Marathon two years ago and has taken on around 20 half marathons over the last decade, wanted to take on one last 26-miler to help raise money for Cure Leukaemia.

And the event certainly proved “eventful” he said, adding: “The official pacemaker pulled up injured after seven miles but I managed to complete the course in four hours 50 minutes."

Sgt Norgrove, who has worked at Stourbridge and Brierley Hill Police Stations, decided to run for the charity after hearing about Wolves FC goalkeeper Carl Ikeme’s recent diagnosis with the disease and his last marathon outing has raised more than £400 for the cause.
