WORCESTER Racecourse has been named as a finalist in the prestigious showcase and awards, hosted by the Racecourse Association (RCA).

The awards celebrate first class customer experience, and the Pitchcroft course has been listed as a finalist in the food and beverage category.

Winners are to be announced at a ceremony being held at Newbury Racecourse, on November 16.

Worcester Racecourse impressed the judges through their fine dining at a small racecourse initiative.

Jenny Cheshire, executive director at the racecourse, said: “We were thrilled to find out we have been shortlisted, recognising the hard work and dedication from the team that has gone into making the Severn Restaurant what it is today."

“We are committed to using the very best of local and seasonal produce in the restaurant, with many of our suppliers located within a 20 mile radius of the Racecourse.

"Our team of talented chefs create bespoke menus that change for each of our 20 racedays, ensuring a varied and innovative dining experience for our customers."

“The Severn Restaurant is becoming increasingly popular with our customers, many returning multiple times throughout the season and we are delighted that this has been recognised for such a prestigious award.”

The awards identify excellence and innovation in racecourse food and drink quality and service. Successful finalists had to reflect both the fare itself and its journey from conception to plate, as well as the level of service underpinning the operation.

Stephen Atkin, RCA chief executive, said: “I am delighted for Worcester Racecourse for their success in being named a finalist at the 2017 showcase and awards.

“It is a highlight of our year to see all of the quality Showcase Awards submissions go before the judges to measure the impact and growth of the initiatives that our racecourses have delivered and clearly Worcester have enjoyed an excellent year.

“I extend my congratulations to the team for their hard work in securing this achievement and wish them the best of luck for the ceremony."
