A FOUNDATION set up in memory of a Trimpley woman has recently launched a new project for people with learning disabilities to experience paid work.

The Emily Jordan Foundation's new project on the Finepoint Estate will provide work for six hours a week to three people with learning disabilities, and now takes the number employed at the charity to six.

Chris Jordan, chair of the trustees and founder, said: "We are very pleased to have started this new enterprise, which we hope will lead to similar projects in the future.

"This type of work is ideal and we aim to show local businesses what these guys can do. Doing some paid work is vital for their self-esteem - there is no reason why they cannot contribute to society like everyone else.

"All they need is the opportunity which we would really like local businesses to get involved in."

Mark Lenton, from KWB Property Management, added: "As the managing agents for the Finepoint Way estate, KWB are very happy to support the Emily Jordan Foundation to gainfully employ people with learning difficulties to lead a more fulfilled life.

"This benefits those who are employed and all of our occupiers on site."

The foundation was set up by Chris and Sarah Jordan in 2008 as a legacy to their 21-year-old daughter, Emily, who was killed while river boarding in New Zealand in April 2008.

The Emily Jordan Foundation will celebrate its 10th birthday in 2018 and is planning a number of events over the year to mark it.
