EXCITED festival organisers in Bewdley have said they are looking forward to bringing theatre to the community with two productions later this year.

Bewdley Festival will present performances of “The Dancing Club” and “Here I Belong” at the town’s St George’s Hall in March.

Dave Collin, from Bewdley Festival Committee, said: “This is all about bringing theatre and the arts to local communities and we are delighted to be presenting these shows.

The Dancing Club will be the first production when it is performed at the hall on Saturday, March 3.

It tells the story of Kidderminster legends Frank and Wynn Freeman and the story of the dance club they founded in the town in 1947.

It developed into an iconic community focus and attracted all the stars of music and dance over the following decades. The production tells their story and recreates the mood and atmosphere of Frank and Wynn’s Dance Club across the years, featuring many dance and music styles.

This will be followed by ‘Here I Belong’ which will be performed at St George’s Hall on Tuesday, March 13.

The story centres around a character called Elsie and is a cabaret style show to celebrate her birthday.

Elsie has lived in the village all her life and witnessed wars, weddings, elections, funerals and people coming and going from the community.

It covers six decades from the Queen’s Coronation in 1953 to her birthday party in the present day. The action happens all around the audience – and there will even be cake for people to enjoy Both shows start at 7.30pm and tickets are priced at £10 each.

They are available from www.bewdleyfestival.org.uk or in person from St George’s Hall café.
