UNIONS and politicians are calling for a bank holiday if England win the World Cup – and for bosses to be sympathetic to their workforce if they are a little worse for wear on Thursday morning.

As England gear up for their semi-final clash against Croatia, employers across the country may be worried that productivity will slump to zero if the national team make it to the final.

But the Trades Union Congress (TUC) has urged employers to be understanding and let their staff enjoy the moment.

BRITISH Airways handed out 300 waistcoats to customers flying from Heathrow to Moscow ahead of the crucial World Cup semi.

Signs at Terminal 5 showed customers where to “ChecK-ane” for the 8.45am flight, with fans being offered St George’s Flag face painting and boarding passes with customer name “Football” and destination “Home”.

The carrier gave away the Marks and Spencer waistcoats, as worn by England boss Gareth Southgate, to some of the 860 people flying with them to Moscow on Wednesday.

PRIME Minister Theresa May has insisted that the deal she forged at Chequers last week “delivers on the vote that people gave on Brexit” in the 2016 referendum.

Mrs May was speaking amid speculation over further possible resignations of Leave-backing Tories, following the loss of three ministers, two party vice-chairs and two parliamentary aides over the course of 48 hours.

Backbencher Andrew Bridgen became the first Tory MP to declare that he has sent a letter of no confidence in Mrs May to the chairman of the backbench 1922 Committee, Sir Graham Brady. Some 48 letters are required to trigger a vote.
