A STOURPORT primary school have enrolled new additions as they welcome three pigs and two goats to their new smallholding.

Lickhill Primary School have set up the smallholding as part of their Forest School enrichment programme, where pupils can explore the process of breeding and rearing animals.

They are one of the first primary school’s in the area to introduce a smallholding, which was developed with the help and guidance of partners A-Plan insurance, Kidderminster, Wyre Forest District Council, and The Shed who generously donated the pigs.

The goats were purchased by school and will be long standing pets.

Jane Lloyd, Deputy Head Teacher at Lickhill Primary School said: “The smallholding is yet another way we are able to add value to the education of our pupils when they are at school.

The children have been immersed in every stage of the smallholding’s development – and have thoroughly loved it – from helping to build the pig and goat enclosures, to choosing their names and helping feed the animals on a daily basis.

“We thank the partners that have enabled the smallholding to come to fruition; their involvement has been paramount in its success.”

Matt Miles, Branch Manager at A-Plan Insurance, Kidderminster said: “Lickhill has done a wonderful job in setting up and running the smallholding, and we have been excited to help their plans become a reality.”
