CHESS players in Bewdley will be making the right moves next month as they bid to raise money for a hospital appeal.

A chess tournament will be held at Wribbenhall Parish Rooms on Sunday, August 12, starting at 11am. It will be open to chess players of all levels and ages.

As well as proving themselves on the board, those taking part will be aiming to raise money for the Rory the Robot appeal.

Bewdley Mayor Councillor Roger Coleman and appeal fundraising officer Nicky Langford joined chess club members to launch the tournament.

The Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust initiative aims to raise £1.6million to fund a medical robot that will be based at Redditch Hospital and used primarily to treat people with prostate cancer.

It will also have the potential to be utilised by other surgical teams in the future.

People can find out more about the chess tournament by contacting John Wrench on 07913 227402.
