MALE patients at Kidderminster Hospital are now ‘going with the flow’ thanks to new equipment provided by a Wyre Forest health charity.

The two flow meters, purchased by The League of Friends of Kidderminster Hospitals for £4,500, play a key diagnostic role in men’s ‘waterworks issues.’

They measure the rate of urine flow and have replaced old equipment which had been proving unreliable and had led to waits for the patient and even cancelled appointments.

Penny Templey, a clinical nurse specialist in the hospital’s urology department, said: “This clinic deals with about 300-400 patients with ‘waterworks issues’ a year and these new machines have made such a difference to them.”

The meters are wireless and easy to use, and once a patient has used the funnel part of the equipment, staff receive an immediate computer read-out of the information in the next room.
