SEVERN Valley Railway are on track for a season finale of royal proportion as they welcome prestigious steamers for their Autumn Steam Gala.

The railway's flagship event will run from September 20 to 23, and will feature a host of regal locomotives, and an all-night running timetable to delight steam enthusiasts.

Appearing at the event will be the iconic LMS Princess Coronation No. 6233 ‘Duchess of Sutherland,’ one of the most powerful passenger steamers working on British Railways in the 1930s, and hauler of the royal train during the Queen's Golden Jubilee celebrations in 2002 and in 2005 when The Prince of Wales travelled on board.

The world-famous No. 46100 ‘Royal Scot,’ will also be starring at the gala, a flagship steamer on the West Coast that has also journeyed across the USA and Canada.

Other locomotives appearing are the returning No. 70000 ‘Britannia,’ LNER Q6 No.63395 and SVR resident locomotive No. 2857, with homefleet engines No.7802 Bradley Manor and ‘Flying Pig’ No. 43106 hauling the railway's overnight services on the Friday and Saturday night.

Visitors can also enjoy a walk-on breakfast train running from Bridgnorth and Kidderminster on Saturday and Sunday, and people can also book a unique experience aboard the Severn Valley Limited Dining Train on the Sunday.

Lewis Maddox, the SVR’s events co-ordinator said: “Our 2018 season finale gala is set to a real crowd-pleaser and we are extremely privileged to have two ‘royal’ visitors heading our way this year – they really should be a breath-taking sight as they pass along the line, especially the Duchess of Sutherland in its bright red livery with gold detailing.

“We’ve got lots to see and do for all ages, with plenty of locomotives to-ing and fro-ing along the line, the chance to experience a journey with a difference along the SVR after the sun goes down and a wealth to explore at The Engine House.”
