A YOUNG Kidderminster cycling star continues to chase her Olympic dream after landing a place on a national apprenticeship programme.

Kinga Ingram, 15, from King Charles I School, has been offered a place on the Great Britain Cycling Team Apprenticeship programme, where she will receive training to develop her skills.

The GBCT have identified Kinga, who is a member of Halesowen Cycling Club, as a "hardworking, skilful bike racer who has the potential to develop into a successful world class athlete in the future."

As an apprentice, she will attend training days throughout the year, and be coached by GBCT Foundation Coach Ben Greenwood, who will help manage her racing programme.

Training will cover the disciplines from track, closed circuit, open road and gym, and also focus on her development 'Off-bike.'

Kinga said: "I cannot really put into words how happy I am to be invited onto the Apprentice Program.

"This is hopefully my first big step onto the British Cycling Pathway to achieve my goal to represent GB and become a pro cyclist."

Kinga's most recent victory was at the Skoda Manchester Velodrome Omnium track event, where she came first overall after winning an elimination race, and placing second in the scratch race and points race.

"As cycling is becoming more popular the opportunities for people like me in sport are really big.

"I am lucky to be supported by Kidderminster Company ‘Success Cycling’ and my coach Jamie Jenkins has helped to push me in the right direction."
