A LUCKY badger was rescued last week (October 18) after becoming trapped in a skate 'bowl' at Brinton Park in Kidderminster.

The RSPCA were called by a quick-thinking member of the public, and they sent out animal collection officer Mark Lewis to the Kidderminster park to help out the badger.

The skate park's 'bowl,' which has smooth sides for skaters to ride up and down, meant that the badger could not use his claws to climb out, which left him frightened and vulnerable.

Mark recovered the badger after sliding down into the bowl and containing the animal in a specialist carrier.

ACO Mark Lewis said: “This poor badger would have been so stressed being stuck like that, as they are such timid wild creatures.

"This poor chap had actually worn his claws down from trying to climb up the smooth edges of concrete so much.

"He was bleeding a little bit, so I took him to a vet to get him checked over.

"Thankfully, his claws weren’t badly damaged and the vet gave us the all clear to release him back to the wild.

"My colleague ACO Baird watched as the badger scuttled off, no worse for wear after his ordeal.”
