LOTTERY players can see behind the scenes at the iconic carriage works at Severn Valley Railway in Kidderminster this December.

On Thursday, December 6, National Lottery ticket holders will be given a rare glimpse at some of the rolling stock currently under restoration, see heritage skills in action and meet the volunteers and apprentices who make it all happen.

Severn Valley is one of hundreds of National Lottery-funded visitor attractions paying thanks to people who have raised money for good causes by buying a lottery ticket.

In recent years, the trust has received £595,000 from the Heritage Lottery Fund, including £95,000 towards the restoration of the railway's flagship locomotive, the No 4930 Hagley Hall, which is set to return to steam in 2020.

Nick Ralls, general manager at Severn Valley Railway, said: “Thanks to National Lottery players we’ve been able to carry out some major projects which otherwise would not have been possible.

"Our endowment fund will play a crucial role in providing funding to the railway in years to come, and we are hugely excited about seeing our very own Hagley Hall take its rightful place back on the line once more.”

Places on the Thanks To You behind the scenes tour must be booked in advance. All applicants must have a National Lottery ticket or scratch card.
