WYRE Forest's second longest serving councillor, Jamie Shaw, has resigned from the district council, citing ill-health.
Labour councillor and ward member for Areley Kings and Riverside in Stourport, Jamie Shaw has resigned from Wyre Forest District Council after 32 years, eight of which were spent as leader of the council in the 1990s.
Announcing the resignation today (Wednesday), Cllr Stephen Williams, chairman of Wyre Forest District Council, said “I was sorry to learn that Jamie has resigned because he cannot carry out his duties expected of a district councillor because of ill-health.
“He was our second longest-serving councillor with almost 32 years service across two terms, and had been leader of the council for a total of eight years between 1989 and 1999.
“I am sure that colleagues would wish to join me in thanking him for his long and dedicated service to the council and in wishing him well for the future.”
Cllr Nigel Knowles, leader of Wyre Forest Labour, added: "We thank Jamie Shaw for his diligent service over the last 32 years and wish him well for the future."
