A WOMAN in her 60s is in a critical condition following a three-car crash in Stourbridge.

Three cars crashed on the A450 near to the junction at Broom Lane just after 1pm this afternoon (December 13).

The crash involved a grey Smart Car, a red Jaguar and a black Mercedes-Benz light goods vehicle.

The woman, who was the driver of the Smart Car, sustained serious injuries and remains in a critical condition at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham.

The driver of the Jaguar, a man in his late 40s, was taken to hospital for treatment for minor injuries, while the driver of the Mercedes-Benz light goods vehicle, a man in his 30s, was uninjured.

An ambulance, two paramedic officers, two helicopters from the Warwick and Northamptonshire Air Ambulance and Midlands Air Ambulance from Strensham, and the Midlands Air Ambulance Critical Care Car were sent to the scene.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “When crews arrived they found two cars with significant damage, one of which was in a hedge.

“The driver of one car, a woman, was trapped for around half an hour while ambulance staff worked with firefighters to free her.  She was taken with potentially serious injuries by ambulance on blue lights to the major trauma centre at Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham.

“The man driving the other car, was able to get out of the vehicle himself. He was assessed and treated at the scene before being taken by ambulance for further treatment at Russells Hall Hospital.”

The road is currently closed between Hackmans Gate and Cross Keys and drivers are advised to avoid the area.
