A MUM has fundraised to get a much-needed defibrillator installed at her son's school.

Jodie Pearson has raised over £1,700 to pay for the life-saving equipment at Blanford Mere Primary School in Kingswinford, should her four-year-old son ever need it.

The NHS worker set up a Crowdfunder and held an auction in August to pay for the life-saving equipment, which was provided by West Midlands Ambulance Service.

Jodie's son, Samuel, lives with a genetic heart condition called Long QT, which can led to an irregular heartbeat, palpitations, fainting and even sudden death.

The four-year-old started at the school in September, and concerned mum Jodie wanted to ensure the equipment was on-hand at the school should her son ever need it.

Jodie said: "It has given me peace of mind, but the defibrillator is for the local community as well as the school."

West Bromwich Albion donated a signed football while Kingswinford Morrisons and Childs Farm also donated prizes to the raffle, which Jodie held at her workplace at Russell's Hall Hospital.

Jodie explained: "I wanted to make local people aware that there is a defibrillator accessible in their area, to perhaps encourage others to do the same thing and to raise the importance of schools having defibrillators on site.

"As parents we feel so much happier knowing that if Samuel’s condition did present itself while he was at school then there is a higher chance of a positive outcome."

She added that bike-mad Samuel is 'doing really well' and is enjoying his time at school.

The Candy Caner, ASAP Recovery LTD, HeavenLea Cakes, Tattoos by Gav Underhill, Dudley Showcase Cinema, The Magpie’s Nest Handmade Jewellery and Tree Tops Nursery all donated to Jodie's raffle.
