HEIGHTENED police powers in Dudley earlier this month led to one arrest.

Police in Dudley were granted Section 60 'stop and search' powers for three nights on December 5, 6 and 7 in Kate's Hill, St Thomas' ward, parts of St James, Castle and Priory, Netherton Woodside and St Andrews ward in a bid to tackle violent crime.

The enhanced powers allowed officers to stop and search people without reasonable grounds where there was a risk of violence or weapons being used.

A 19-year old was arrested on suspicion of assault and was released on police bail until January.

13 people and two vehicles were also searched in Dudley during the period the three-night period the powers were in place.

A police spokeswoman said the police have no plans to introduce the powers over the Christmas period.

Any information about violent crime or suspicious activity should be reported to police on 101, or 999 in an emergency.
