A WYRE Forest litter picking group welcomed new volunteers to help clean up the streets at an event in Bewdley.

The Pickup Artists held a litter picking event in Bewdley on Saturday January 12, which saw 19 people attend to help with their initiative, a "huge" increase in number for the group.

A number of public areas across the town were covered during the 90 minute litter pick, and 20 bin bags were left for collection by Wyre Forest District Council.

After the litter pick everyone involved were offered a free hot drink at the George Hotel to warm them up.

Michelle Medler, founder of the Pickup Artists said: "We normally get about 6 people turn up to an event so I was a little worried I might run out of equipment.

"Luckily we had enough for every one and it was lovely to see so many strangers all coming together at the start of the event and contact numbers were being passed at the end to arrange their own litter picks and other events.

"I hope this enthusiasm continues in Kidderminster and Stourport. "

The Pickup Artists have been on individual litter picks and arranged group events, so far we estimate we have taken over 50 bags off the streets of Stourport, over 40 off the streets off Kidderminster and over 40 off the streets in Bewdley.
