A SCHOOL in Wolverley hopes to save thousands of pounds in energy costs after installing solar panels on its roof.
Heathfield Knoll School has teamed up with solar power plant operator Engynious to kit out three of its buildings with specialist panels which, as well as saving the school money, will be playing a part in future lessons.
Part of the Engynious Solar for Schools Programme, the panels will feed power generation data back to the school to be analysed by students as part of the curriculum.
Headmaster Lawrence Collins said: "Solar panels have been installed on three of our buildings which will help us reduce our energy costs and ensure that we continue doing our bit for the environment.
"We are becoming more aware of climate change and the natural disasters it causes. Educating our pupils about environmental issues is incredibly important."
Pupils aged between three and 16 years will be able to learn what uses a lot of electricity and why, read energy charts, make calculations and interpret the raw data.
