A FAMILY fun day at a Kidderminster pub raised nearly £2,000 for one of their regular patrons who is battling cancer at the young age of 24.

More than 1,000 people turned out for Meg's Family Fun Day at the Loom & Shuttle on Saturday (January 26), which featured food vans, stalls, fairground rides, live music and competitions running from midday through to midnight.

The fundraiser was organised in aid of 24-year-old Meg Smith, from Kidderminster, who was recently diagnosed with cancer.

Landlord Richard Humphries, who took over the Stourport Road pub in November, said: "We were planning to do a big family event at the end of January and decided to do it to raise money for Meg and her family.

"They've been coming to the pub for years and they're a lovely family and we just wanted to do a bit to help.

"The pub was heaving all day and we raised just over £1,800 for Meg and her family to spend as they choose."

The Loom & Shuttle is still collecting donations for Meg and is welcoming bids on their online auction. For more information ask for Sophie Harvey at the bar.
