A DOG was found in an emaciated state, tied up by a metal chain outside Aston Manor Cider Mill in Stourport on Sunday (January 3).

The RSPCA was called to collect the male rottweiler after it was discovered tied to some railings near Stourport Marina at around 9am.

Stourport resident Jayne Olden, who discovered the abandoned dog, said: "I was out walking my own dogs and saw him tied up to the railings opposite the cider factory.

"The first thing I did was take the chain off his neck. He was very malnourished but very sweet-natured.

"It was hard to tell how long he'd been there. He didn't feel cold enough to have been out there all night but the grass and leaves around him were quite well flattened from where he had been curled up.

"I took him back to my boat to give him some food. I tried to give him a bit of a walk but he was so weak he just sat down.

"It was very upsetting to see him in such a state. If it had been on TV I wouldn't have watched it but I just went into autopilot and did what I had to do."

The RSPCA has been approached for comment.
