KIDDERMINSTER theatre fans are invited to attend an event of royal proportion at the Rose Theatre.

The Nonentities Society will bring their production of well-loved story The King's Speech to the stage from Monday February 25 until Saturday March 2.

The play, which was adapted for the stage from his own Oscar-winning screenplay by David Seidler, is the story of the remarkable relationship between Albert and his speech therapist and friend, Lionel Logue, following the abdication of Albert's brother King Edward VIII.

Logue, an Australian living in London and a man of humour, patience and superhuman sympathy, agrees to treat Albert and helps him overcome the hurt of past speech therapy failures and the looming shadows of his family and childhood.

The play spans the time from Albert’s first excruciatingly awkward public address, through the abdication and the coronation and up to King George VI addressing the nation to inform them that “for the second time in the lives of most of us, we are at war.”

The iconic moments of British history in the play will be performed with wit, emotion and warm humour in one of the first amateur productions of The King’s Speech.

People can book tickets for the performances by calling the box office on 01562 743745 or via the website www.rosetheatre.co.uk.
