A COMMUNITY-spirited support group have opened a new night kitchen and help centre for the homeless at a Kidderminster Church.

Workers from HELP were at St Mary's Church in Kidderminster yesterday night (Monday April 8), to open their Night Kitchen and Community Help Centre for the first time.

The group will be supporting around 22 homeless people, and those in need, offering hot food, warm clothing, as well as personal support with housing, budgeting, medical appointments.

They will also provide addiction support, referring people to other outreach groups HELP are now working with.

HELP are currently working on fundraisers, with the aim of opening their own building so they can offer more ongoing support to those who need.

They hope to start up drop-in clinics where outside agencies will come along to give support.

HELP founder Dave Griffin said: "The Night Kitchen is really something we need.

"I see what the people live like and what they go through.

"They are so thankful for everything that they get.

"It's not just about the clothing and food, we want to provide them with long term support.

"The idea is to generate some funding so we can get our own building and office to put on drop-in support.

"If it wasn't for the volunteers we have at HELP, this would not be possible."
