WYRE Forest Council has appointed a construction firm to build nine new industrial units in Kidderminster.

The units will be built on land off Silverwoods Way - which was previously occupied by Frenco car parts before the Hoobrook Link Road was built - in an effort to provide businesses with a space to expand.

Mike Parker, corporate director at Wyre Forest District Council, said: "The council continues to invest in new space to enable our businesses to grow and the new units it has planned as an extension to the popular Hoobrook Enterprise Centre will complement the recent announcement of the expansion of the business start up and incubator space at Forest House on the Hoo Farm Industrial Estate.

“The development will comprise nine new units of 600 sq ft each which will be available to let to businesses.

"The existing Hoobrook Enterprise Centre next door is currently fully let and we know that there is strong demand in the district for units of this size.

"I’m very pleased that we’ve been able to award the contract to Construction and Fit Out Solutions and expect the work to start on site shortly.”

The deal comes after Bromsgrove-based firm Barton Firtop announced its plans to build a 60,000sq ft plant on the Silverwoods site.

Mr Parker added: “It was really great to hear the news about Barton Firtop coming to Silverwoods, this site has always been earmarked as a mixed use development site and this will be a fantastic employment use to add to the other uses on the site."
