KIDDERMINSTER Cricket Club is hosting its first ever Women’s Softball Festival and is hoping to attract teams from across Wyre Forest.

The event, on Sunday, June 30, is part of a nationwide drive to introduce women into the sport in a fun, friendly way – and with a glass or two of prosecco after the games.

Teams of six to eight women aged from 14 upwards, are invited to sign up. No experience is needed and all players will be supplied with a match top.

The mini games are played in a pairs format with a softball and plastic bat, so no pads or helmet are required.

Kidderminster CC’s women’s team, The Golden Ducks, is taking part in festivals across the county this summer, and captain Mel Shaverin is hoping for a good turnout of teams at the home festival, which will run from 2pm until 5pm.

She said: “As well as teams from other cricket clubs, we hope to attract teams from the community, such as other sports clubs, businesses or groups of friends.

“It’s a really good social occasion, lots of fun and it doesn’t matter whether you win or lose. The atmosphere at the festivals is always very friendly and welcoming.”

Local zumba guru Toni-Jayne Bouncer will lead the warm up session at the Chester Road ground.
