THE organiser of an annual charity golf event will be unable to attend for the first time in 11 years after being diagnosed with cancer.

Angela Gaskell and her husband John hold the Annual Charity Golf Day at Cleobury Mortimer Golf Club each year to raise money for their foundation, Rainbow Cancer Care, in memory of Angela's mum Doreen Morton, who lost her battle with cancer 11 years ago.

But this year, in a cruel twist of fate, Angela will be unable to attend the fundraiser as she continues her own battle with the disease.

The Rainbow Cancer Care Foundation hosts three fundraisers a year, and has to date donated more than £80,000 to charities such as Cancer Research UK, Macmillan Cancer Support, Muscular Dystrophy UK and the Midland Air Ambulance.

This year, the foundation will also be supporting the Millbrook Suite at Kidderminster Hospital, where Angela is currently undergoing treatment.

Husband John said: "Our aim is to raise £100,000. We are hoping that our friends will continue with the next two whilst Ange is now fighting cancer herself, so sadly will be unable to attend.

“We would like to thank everyone on the Millbrook Suite and all departments for their support and care, together from everyone at the trust. They are all amazing.”

This year's Annual Charity Golf Day on July 5 will see 170 players take on an 18-hole course.

The event costs £35 per person. There will be prizes up for grabs and two-course buffet on the day. For more information, visit cloeburygolfclub.co.uk.
