A DAY of 1940s-themed activities will celebrate the history of Bewdley's cherry heritage.

The annual cherry fair will be held at Bewdley Museum on Saturday, July 20 and Sunday, July 21, with delicious varieties of cherries to sample and buy, entertainment throughout the day, and a talk about the town's famous orchards.

There will be historic re-enactors, classic cars, vintage stalls and 1940s music on the day, including 1930s and 40s classics from Kevin Mack on the Saturday, and a performance from Wyre Forest Big Band on Sunday.

The museum's popular air raid shelter will also be open with talks and displays of 1940s memorabilia.

Councillor Helen Dyke, cabinet member for culture at Wyre Forest District Council, said: "Come along and celebrate all things cherry over the weekend of Saturday, July 20 and Sunday, July 21.

“This free event is a great opportunity to learn about the history of Bewdley with its 200 year tradition of an annual cherry fair going back to 1817!”

Activities run from 10am to 4pm daily.

The fair is being run by Wyre Forest Council in partnership with Bewdley Civic Society.
