Athletics Wolverley was well represented in county events and the district trials this term.

Unfortunately, due to the bad weather, the district championships had to be postponed.

The Wyre Forest Schools' trials were held this term at Stourport High School.

We took 25 pupils who competed for a place representing Wyre Forest in the county event.

Five pupils were selected to represent the district: Leigh Godson - intermediate boys javelin and 100m.

Kirsten Oliver - intermediate girls discus.

Jennie Bayliss - intermediate girls javelin.

Tom Sparks - intermediate boys 1,500m.

Hannah Sparks -junior hirls 800m.

These students then competed against other districts throughout Worcestershire for a place in the Worcestershire County Team in the Mason Trophy.

Congratulations particularly go to Leigh Godson who came first in the county intermediate boys' javelin event.

Under-15 Cricket Cricket has been very popular this year, with up to 20 pupils attending training sessions twice a week.

Craig Wood from Kidderminster Victoria Cricket Club has been running sessions on a Thursday night which have also proved successful.

As a result, they have played three games this term with great results.

Rounders The girls' rounders team was entered into the Wyre Forest League.

They only played two fixtures in the summer term because of the bad weather, winning one and losing one.

Many thanks to Sophie Chilman for organising the team.

Trips A group of 27 year nine and 10 pupils attended a week of challenge at the Llanrug Outdoor Education Centre where they took part in a range of activities from gorge-walking to sea-kayaking.

All pupils had a fantastic time, as did Miss Hodgetts and Mr Patterson who, it is hoped, finally managed to catch up on their sleep!

A wunderbar' ski trip to Sallbach, Austria, took place this year with Wolverley joining King's School from Bournemouth. The trip was blessed with powder snow - and some exciting dancing from Mr Patterson.

The next ski trip will be to Ziller Valley at Easter 2008.

If you are over 14 years old and think you are ready to take the challenge, please see Mr Patterson.

Netball Once again we entered a school team in the Kidderminster Ladies Netball League on Tuesday and Thursday evenings.

The team comprised: Holly Batsford (captain), Jodie Chilman, Stacey Hunt, Louise Carwood, Aimee Duke, Kirsty Howell, and a couple of ex-pupils, Charlotte Rees and Karen Goode.

The girls had a good start to the season after being runners-up the previous year.

Warm thanks to all parents for your support and also for giving up your time, especially Den Batsford for umpiring every game.

Ski-ing coaching The ski slope was put to great use by our pyramid schools throughout the year and Miss Hodgetts is very grateful to Mr Palin, Liam Fidoe, Mr Patterson, Miss Poole, Mr Rowan and Chris Best for coaching the sessions.

Other schools, especially primary schools, are welcome to use the slope by arrangement for a small fee.

Schools interested should contact Miss Hodgetts.

JSLA The Junior Sports Leaders Award enables young people to develop leadership skills in sport.

Twenty-eight year 10 pupils ran a Striking and Fielding Festival for the primary schools in our pyramid.

They ran it in line with their assessment for the Junior Sports Leaders Award. The festival took place at Franche First and Middle schools and involved a total of 153 pupils from year two within the pyramid.

The primary pupils took part in four 20-minute sessions and the day ended with a game of rounders in which everyone participated.

The day was a huge success and was greatly enjoyed by everybody who took part.

Miss Hodgetts would like to thank everyone who helped, especially Jan Smith for organising transport, and Franche First School for organising refreshments for all the pupils.

Our own students were highly praised by staff from other schools for their professionalism and coaching skills.

PE clubs This term there was a reward trip to Alton Towers for all pupils who had shown enthusiasm and dedication in extra-curricular PE clubs or had an effort grade of one or two in PE lessons.

The coach trip took place on Sunday, July 8 and everyone had a fantastic day.

Miss Hodgetts expressed her gratitude to the students, parents and staff who, by their energy and commitment, provide Wolverley with such a successful PE Department.

Duke of Edinburgh Award Mr Patterson continues to run the Duke of Edinburgh Award and it is becoming an ever stronger feature of life at Wolverley. Miss Hodgetts hopes that Wolverley can develop into something of a centre for outdoor and adventure education over the coming years - we have certainly made a good start along this path.

Mr Patterson is looking for more students to take the challenge presented by the award so anyone interested, please see him or Miss Hodgetts for more details.

Wrestling club This term, a new club was introduced for the first time. The wrestling club was started at Wolverley by Mr Barth who teaches ICT during the day but whose alter ego, "The Cage", strikes fear into the hearts of wrestlers (and some of the audience!).

Male pupils of all ages were invited to try a completely different way of keeping fit and at the same time using their performance skills to see who could be the next Hulk Hogan or Stone Cold Steve Austin.

Attendance at the sessions has been high as the promise of a ring and a possible "pupils only" show has kept attendees motivated and excited.

If anyone is interested in joining this club please see Mr Barth for details.

In order to allay the fears of nervous parents, and at the risk of giving away trade secrets, the wrestling moves are very carefully taught so that participants do not get injured.
