AN English folk icon will bring her unique show to Bewdley to delight music enthusiasts. 

Singer Shirley Collins will take to the stage at St George's Hall on Saturday, September 21, to perform her America Over The Water show.

The folk musician, now in her eighties, has been regarded as one of the pivotal figures in the English folk song revival of the 1960s and 70s, along with her sister Dolly. 

America Over The Water recounts her journey through the musical heartland of the southern States of America, recording music from religious communities, prisons and chain gangs. 

This show includes readings by Shirley, contributions from actor Pip Barnes, pictures of the singers taken on the journey and recordings made on the trip.

America Over The Water is a prelude to Bewdley Festival's unique weekend of themed events centred around the award-winning, star-studded music documentary series “American Epic” Weekend taking place two weeks later on October, 4 and 5.
