A MAN was taken to hospital after allegedly being kidnapped and then left in a Kidderminster street.

Armed police descended on Leswell Street at around 12.45pm on Wednesday (August 28) after being called with concerns for the welfare of a man.

Specialist officers were deployed to the scene as the man was believed to have been the victim of a kidnapping and had sustained serious injuries to his face before being dropped off in Kidderminster.

The victim - a man in his 20s - was taken to hospital for treatment and has since been released.

Residents in the area reported hearing gunfire, but a spokesman for West Mercia Police said: "There have been no reports of any firearms being discharged and this is believed to be an isolated incident with no wider threat to the public."

Officers remain in the area today "to offer reassurance to the local community".

The investigation has since been passed over to West Midlands Police.
